Dekoh announces the developer release of its desktop RIA platform. The platform includes java libraries for common web 2.0 features like AddressBook management, Tagging, Commenting, and Sharing. It also has rich syndication API and built-in support for versioning and upgrading of applications. Developers can leverage the reusable javascript widgets to cut down on development time.

”Dekoh provides a platform for social networking from the desktop. Developers will find it easy to build cross-platform desktop applications leveraging their knowledge of existing open and standards-based technologies,” says Dekoh CTO and co-founder Vijay Pullur.

Complete API and documentation for the platform is available on the Wiki.

The release also contains sources for our full-featured applications: Dekoh Photos, Dekoh Music, Dekoh Books, and Dekoh Calendar. These applications demonstrate the power of the platform to make content and applications instantly shareable with friends right off the desktop. Sources for the sample applications are available from the source download page.

A quick guide to compiling sources is available at the wiki page HowToCompileSampleSources.

Developers can discuss API and requests for enhancements on the Dekoh API discussion board.

The release also contains a number of new features for end-users:

  1. Run site/application off your desktop for general public. The sharing feature is now extended to public users.
  2. Receive notifications from your Dekoh buddy network in a convenient tray icon.
